Date: Fri 04 Dec 1998 Andrew, Here is "Unite and Unite!",
a traditional song with very strong links to the annual Padstow Mayday
celebrations. Played traditionally on accordians and drums, here are
two Padstonian Pupils playing the opening bars. A bit scratchy but I
hope you can use it! Barry Millington |
Date: Fri 04 Dec 1998 Barry, Many thanks....very jolly! There are a number of soundfiles which are folk or 'amateur' in character - it's emerging as a definite theme. Andrew |

1998 Please find enclosed our
soundbyte. My apologies for it being late - a few problems! Hope you are having fun with it. I have a friend who is sure it is going to be plinky-plonk followed by strings, and then more plinky-plonk again! Can you please prove him wrong? Regards P.S. We love contemporary music - its just some kinds get us down a bit! Hence the discrimination about "plinky-plonk"! |
Date: Mon 23rd Nov
1998 Highly amusing collection of apparently incidental sounds! I can certainly use these, but watch this space because I shall be applying every manner of strange effects to your sounds. As for the plinky-plonk, I can only say that the piece will reflect what I receive. However, you might be interested to get involved in a discussion on this very topic which I have initiated on the message board Andrew P.S. There are bits of contemporary music that get me down as well! |

1998 All very musical. Thanks very much! You'll see in the composer's diary that I'm classifying sounds according to type. These are obviously in the musical category and the challenge now is to mix them with other sounds in that category. Andrew |

1998 Hi Andy! The web site is going great and the sounds you have there are really impressive! Here's another to add to your ever growing collection. This is Poltair Schools sound and I absolutely love it :) Hope all is going well! Ben |
Date: Mon 16 Nov
1998 I absolutely love Poltair's sound as well. How on earth did they get the gulls to co-operate? When I wrote Island Symphony, I spent a day trying to record gulls. They just won't cry when you want them to . Anyway, thanks Poltair School. It's the first sound that seems to evoke Cornwall specifically, although of course it could be anywhere by the sea! Andrew |

1998 22:28:28 +0000 Andrew, Hi, Jake Ashworth-Jones from Penair School here, sorry about the delay! I have decided that an extract from 10.24 Seconds to 25 Seconds from the midi file would be most suitable as it is almost exactly 15 seconds, although 10.24 Seconds to 33 Seconds would sound more rounded off musically. I've converted both extracts into wave files in case your computer's internal synth differs to mine. I have just listened to some of the other contributions and they all sound very promising, good luck with the finished piece and again, my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Jake Ashworth-Jones, Penair School |

music! Anyway, have loads of fun with it. |

of material for SFC. "The Green Theme - The Final Use Before Recycling". |
Date: Fri, 6 Nov Dear Nigel and students, Lovely stuff! I particularly
liked the dropping bottles. The recordings are very fine quality,
and the thematic recycling idea gives plenty of food for thought.
"Interesting, if not difficult..."? Well, what is interesting
to me is that there is once again no obvious Cornishness about your
sounds. As Anyway, I'm looking forward
to using your sounds. |

| This sound-file from Penair School arrived by hand at the launch. It contains a couple of good tunes, and an interesting parallel-harmony accompaniment which is very usable. The problem is that the soundfile lasts so long. It's a finished composition, rather than a "sound-bite". I'm going to have to find out if they are willing to let me make a selection from it, or if they want to make a shortened version. |

1998 Andrew, I'm glad you got my bass sound OK and hope you can use it. I had all sorts of problems emailing it, as at first it just would not go, possibly because it was just too big (2500K). In the end I had to compress it to just over 1000K and then convert it into a mono signal (accessible through properties). It went once I had done all this. If anybody else has problems sending a sound they might just bear all this in mind. Andy Baker Bournemouth Sinfonietta |
